written by Evelyn Gurr
illustrated by Natalie Hoch
This is a story about Kai, a young child who lives by the sea with their little black dog. Together they experience human emotions through the environment around them. No matter their experience, they still face the day and go outside to play—just like children (and dogs) all over the world do every day.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Evelyn Gurr lives on the coast of Maine with her family. She works for an international organization and travels the world to protect the environment. She has a deep love of nature, and lived for a few years in a house that felt like it was on the edge of the world surrounded by the ocean.
ABOUT THE ILLUSTRATOR
Natalie Hoch lives with her husband and two children near the sea, outside of Portland, Maine. She deeply enjoys exploring the patterns found in nature, as an artist, decorative painter, and illustrator. So much inspiration for this book comes from all the beaches she’s visited in her life, including in Martha’s Vineyard, Long Island, Florida, California, and especially her life now along the Maine coast.
